The album being so well-organized and aurally multi-faceted, it is at times hard to fathom that the music was improvised and recorded during a single session. (FMQ, Jan-Erik Holmberg, October 2018)

about

In the best of cases, jazz is the music of the ‘NOW’.
When all that has been practised and prepared is thrown overboard, when in the flow of their improvisation the musicians express what defines and distinguishes them as human beings.
When through the nuances of their playing and their individual sound their music becomes a natural expression of their being, then, exactly then, jazz is pure, immaculate and true.

During a concert tour in Estonia, the Finnish trio F# had a day off. They booked a studio in Viljandi, a small, charming city 160 kilometres south of the capital Tallinn, to record the band’s status quo after their recent performances.
Perfectly attuned to one another, the players knew what to expect from each other and that each could be depended on 100 per cent.
Yet, to add another bit of spontaneous creativity, they invited the Estonian singer Liina Saar, who acted as a catalyst, ‘rebooting’ and ‘reloading’ the freely improvised music of the trio.
Without any further agreement, they allowed the music to happen in that moment.

Each of the seven pieces on this quirkily titled album ‘The Wannsee Punk’ turned into a unique sound sculpture of its own. A lucky strike for the musicians and us listeners alike.
